A 19.7-metre RX-0 Unicorn Gundam stands outside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, a full-size replica of the mobile suit from the anime, and a few times a day its armour slides apart with a hiss to reveal glowing pink panels. The original RX-78-2 statue stood here from 2012, and this successor arrived in 2017 to become Odaiba’s most photographed object. After dark the shows add projection on the mall facade and a soundtrack.
Check the show times on the board, catch a daytime transformation and an evening one, and spend the gap at the Gundam Base upstairs. The plaza is free and the mall’s food court covers lunch.
Tips
- The statue transforms from Unicorn to Destroy mode several times a day, with evening shows set to music and projection
- The Gundam Base on the seventh floor of the mall sells kits and exclusive models and has a free gallery of builds
- Stand slightly back near the road for the full-length shot, as the base is crowded under the feet
